Staph Infection?

Remember Clindamycin

A good point was brought up yesterday in morning report.  If you have an infection (say necrotizing pnuemonia or cellulitis) and it looks worse after broad spectrum antibiotics, you may be seeing the results of the released Staph TSST-1 toxin.  These patients benefit from concomitant treatment with clindamycin.

In a brief literature review there were some reports of linezolid having similar effects.  There are not good data to support its routine use to bind toxin however.
